Cyndi Lavin recently posted an interview with Laura Tabakman on her blog, Layers Upon Layers. Tabakman, a mixed media artist, began incorporating polymer clay into her work back in 1994 when her daughter received a few blocks of it for her birthday and they started playing. As Tabakman says, “She left and I kept playing”. An interesting read.
Polymer clay, steel wire, 16 1/2″ x 6″ x 5″
Time touches, alters and decays things. Seeing the marks of the passing of time moves me. I try to include these marks into my work by using shibori techniques or rusted objects to dye my fabrics, incorporating timeless symbols or stressing and scratching the surfaces.
